Happy Birthday?

As fate would have it, James woke up on the wrong side of the crib the day I finally got around to throwing him a birthday party. I thought the cupcakes (which he calls "birthdays") would boost his spirits, but as it turned out, he was totally miffed when he got the one with a stick of wax right in the middle of it.  "No... what's this?!"  Here it is:

His two-year-old scowl is so priceless that I just couldn't help but egg him on.  Quality parenting right there.  Listen for the "Bye, Hannah" at the end.  We're on a first-name basis these days.  Literally.

Attentive Observers

I saw Danielle as a patient in my clinic this week.  When I turned to get her a prescription, I found another little consult going on.

A mother like that...

After bumbling through two years of motherhood, today I reflect on what kind of mother I want, and need, to be.

I tried to put it into words, and sort of did, but I just kept coming up with faces, people, instead.

So, here it is.  When I grow up, this is the kind of mother I want to be:

Solid.  100%.

Fun!

A master at the balancing act.

Selfless and giving.  To the very core.

Con un gran "corazon de madre."

Patient.  So very patient.

A caramel-making, world-class garden-keeping, cozy-little-home-making... GREAT grandma.

83 going on 30.  A brilliant, no-nonsense, pure-hearted pillar of a woman.

A true "natural"...  who simply makes it all happen.

All of the above.  And even more.

So, I want to wish a VERY HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to this little collection of the very best moms I know.

And especially:

To the proverbial wind beneath my,
and everyone's really, wings...

To the one who holds me together... still...

To my wonderful, Liza-Hamilton, behind-the-scenes, give-whatever-it-takes-and-more mother...

To my best friend...

I love you, Mom!
